Finally!

Ok, after several hours of troubleshooting it’s finally done, the laptop has wireless internet *and* the messengers work. I swear the Microsoft gods are against me. Every single one of them. When I finally got internet access MSN didn’t let me login, giving out some error code. So I go to Google and check for it of course, and they give like 4 options to solve it. I go through all of them, from changing the system time to changing the MTU in the registry (If anyone is interested: the needed MTU is 1400). So after doing all that, it still didn’t work, I started chewing the keyboard. Then I decided to change the evil MTU a bit lower and voila, it works! As a normal user, you never think of that, I have never heard of that thing anyway. So yeah, don’t want to bore you but I’m a little proud of myself to figure it out. And if that shaky stacking with the fan and PC on this ton of books doesn’t crash it should all be fine now.

Nach diversen Stunden des Brüllens in den PC und guten Zuredens ist es vollbracht: Der Laptop hat Internet *und* MSN funktionuckelt. Die Microsoft Götter müssen mich nicht besonders mögen. Als das WLAN endlich funktionierte und ich mit MSN verbinden wollte, meckert dieser doch rum und gibt einen wirren Fehlercode aus. Ich also zu Google und nachsehen, was denn dies meinen könnte. Bekommen hab ich 4 Lösungsvorschläge (man beachte die intensive Benutzung von Umlauten, so nebenbei), von “Systemzeit richtig einstellen” bis “MTU auf niedrigeren Wert einstellen” (wen’s interessiert, der richtige ist 1400). Ich also alle durchprobiert, nix ging. Also angefangen auf der Tastatur zu kauen und zu fluchen. Dann auf die Idee gekommen, den Wert einfach noch bissl weiter runterzusetzen und voila, es ging! Da kommt kein Mensch drauf. Und ich bin jetzt auch ein bissl stolz auf mich selber und so. Nu muss nur noch das wacklige Konstrukt von ca. 7 Büchern, dem Lüfter und dem PC halten, dann kann nix mehr schiefgehen und ich kann hier weiter auf dem Sofa surfen.

Und nun werd ich mich den Freuden des amerikanischen Fernsehens ergeben.
